Amber Maschke won her first match at the Canadian Wrestling Team Trials this past weekend but the Olds resident will ultimately be looking toward 2020 for her next chance to qualify for the Olympics.

Danielle Lappage of Olds has qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, after dethroning the highest-ranked 63-kilogram wrestler in the country, Braxton Stone-Papadopoulos at the Canadian Wrestling Team Trials.

A five-goal game by one player helped the Toronto Furies defeat the Calgary Inferno 6-5 at the Olds Sportsplex on Dec. 6. Four hundred attended the Canadian Women's Hockey League game.

PENHOLD - The town is moving forward with a new mutual aid agreement with the City of Red Deer. The Town of Penhold and City of Red Deer first entered into a mutual aid agreement back in March of 1979.

The Buck Mountain Mustangs defeated the Bowden Blazers 72-30 in their Alberta Six-man League Tier II final on Nov. 26. “They're tough because they have an offence that runs the ball very well,” said Blazers head coach Chris Grudeski.

Bowden council has demonstrated that it backs the Bowden Blades Pee Wee hockey team. This past week, council approved a request from the team for a $250 donation.

Crossfield's Ian Lowther is the first provincial qualifier for the Olds Rapids Swim Club. The 16-year-old qualified for the Alberta Provincial Championships as a Paralympic swimmer in the 50-metre freestyle.
