It was a rocky start to the new year for Olds College sports teams. In women's hockey, the Broncos split a two-game series with NAIT, winning the first game 5-2, but losing the second game 5-1.

Badminton is a sport that anyone of any age can enjoy. And for those who do, drop-in badminton is available every Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in the new gym at Innisfail High School beginning Jan. 12.

Two local female hockey players have been chosen to play for their respective zone teams in the 2016 Alberta Winter Games, which take place Feb. 13-16 in Medicine Hat.

The Olds Grizzlys held their Cash for Christmas draw the evening of Dec. 21 at the Sportsplex. Bob Delong was the grand prize winner of $15,000. Rhonda Clarke-Tobin from Stony Plain won the second prize, $10,000. Justin Dickneother won $5,000.

The Grizzlys head into the Christmas break with a 14-19-2 record, with the team sitting sixth in the AJHL South. "At the start of the year, if you said to us, you'd be there at that time of the year, we'd probably take it.

The Innisfail female atom Flyers are hosting the 2016 Female Atom Provincial Championships next March. The news came via a live announcement in Red Deer on Dec. 15.

Innisfail Minor Hockey recently held their annual atom tournament at the twin arena. "Each team is guaranteed three games so they have a chance to play lots of hockey,î said Jaclyn Wright, co-cordinator of the tournament.
