Although the suspect involved in the theft of a horse named Hank has turned herself in, the equine has not been recovered and the RCMP continues to search for the animal.
Rimbey RCMP asked for public assistance Thursday in locating Ponoka County resident Katrina Doiron who had a warrant issued for her arrest after she was charged with theft of cattle over $5,000.
In an update issued that evening, Mounties said they were contacted by Doiron advising she intended to voluntarily turn herself over to police.
The 28-year-old attended the Rimbey RCMP detachment and was subsequently released on an undertaking and scheduled to attend court in Rimbey on Oct. 1.
However, Doiron reportedly provided no assistance or information as to the whereabouts of the missing horse, named Hank.
“Rimbey RCMP and the Livestock Investigative Unit continue seeking assistance in locating Hank so he can be returned to his rightful owner,” police said.
Mounties launched an investigation on June 21 into the theft of a horse.
“Doiron is refusing to return the horse, whose name is Hank, and will not tell police where Hank is,” police previously said. “She has also stated she is in the process of selling Hank. Rimbey RCMP is seeking assistance in locating him so he can be returned to his rightful owner.”
Police had also offered words of caution for anyone harbouring the equine adding “if you are in possession of Hank, you are committing the offence of possessing stolen property over $5,000.”
Anyone with information regarding Hank the horse’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact either the Rimbey RCMP or their local police. Those who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
