SUNDRE – Committed to its mission to continue providing transportation for those with limited mobility and connecting them with the services they need, a local service group is hosting an inaugural auction.

The Sundre Community Van Association, a non-profit organization that among services offered endeavours to ensure clients are able to connect with their health-care providers, is raising funds for a new vehicle.

Proceeds will help replace a smaller van that provides transportation for individuals who need full accessibility to appointments, said Jacki Bohn, a member of the association’s board.

“This will be the first auction that the van has done,” she said.

The goal is to acquire a more economical and reliable vehicle. In the meantime, the larger bus – a new 2023 GM 18-passenger model – continues to roll as always, she said.

The association’s first-ever auction fundraiser is slated for Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Sundre Elks Lodge No. 338 hall.

Another venue had initially been considered but “due to overwhelming interest and donations” organizers opted for a larger space, she said.

“We’ve a great response ... Sundre is awesome for that.”

Among the variety of items that were donated include but are not limited to fence posts, gravel, art work, camping gear, event tickets, and baked goods.

Bohn said she is new to the association’s board and also serves as a hostess on the bus.

“I really believe it is a valuable service for our community.”
