Decorated ringette coach and Olds High School graduate Lorrie Horne was the guest speaker at the ASAA 3A basketball championship banquet last week at the Alumni Centre.

For many, competitive hockey ends at midget. But for several Olds residents, the Mountainview Colts junior B hockey gave them the chance to keep playing the sport they love, close to home.

Olds' peewee female Grizzlys won gold at Hockey Alberta's peewee female B provincial championship, held in Edmonton from March 10-13. They defeated St. Albert 2-0 in the tournament final. "All the girls were super excited.

Innisfail Minor Hockey will once again be hosting the Tournament of Champions this month. The 20th annual event, which features atom and novice hockey players, takes place March 25 to 27 in three host cities – Ponoka, Lacombe and Innisfail.

Soccer players in Bowden are gearing up for another season. The Bowden Minor Soccer Association held its Annual General Meeting and registration night on March 9 at Bowden Grandview School.

The Olds midget A female Grizzlys team finished with silver medals at this past weekend's provincial championship, falling 3-2 in overtime to the Calgary Chaos on March 13.

The Sundre tier 3 midget Huskies found their momentum late during provincials held in Provost over the weekend. "We didn't do as well as we could have," said coach Brad Price.
