Innisfail triathlete Joe Svehla has been busy preparing for the upcoming World Triathlon Championships in Mexico this September. “I've been training seven days a week since last September,” said Svehla.

The new state-of-the-art clubhouse at the Innisfail Golf Club officially opened last Sunday afternoon (June 12) with a promise to be the “pride” of the town and a facility every citizen, golfers and non-golfers, can enjoy.

Despite an essentially fully booked inaugural hole-in-one event, no one managed to pull off the lucky shot to claim the top prize. The Sundre Golf Club hosted its first One Day One Shot $100,000 event on Sunday May 29.

A boy from Olds is carrying on a family tradition to participate in the Alberta Summer Games. The Alberta Summer Games start on July 14 in Leduc.

The Olds Minor Soccer Club's U-16 girls team is headed to provincials next month after winning the gold medal game at the 2016 Big Country Soccer Association District Finals. Olds beat Linden 5-3 at Tiny LaFleur Park in Carstairs on June 11.

Rod Bischke was named the province's Minor Hockey Association Executive of the Year after serving as president of Olds Minor Hockey this past season.

Olds High School sent five athletes to the ASAA provincial track and field championship this month, finishing ninth among 3A schools.

This year, instead of inviting the public to a mud run, Olds College is putting on a beer run. On Sept. 17, the campus will host its new fall event, Kegs & Legs 5K.

The Olds Grizzlys haven't arrived yet, but management likes where the team is going, signing head coach Dana Lattery to a contract for another two years.

Olds High School recently named its four Athletes of the Year. Sam Moffat received the award for Grade 9 boys. He played on the junior boys basketball team and on the boys soccer team this year.
