Rod Bischke was named the province's Minor Hockey Association Executive of the Year after serving as president of Olds Minor Hockey this past season.

Olds High School sent five athletes to the ASAA provincial track and field championship this month, finishing ninth among 3A schools.

This year, instead of inviting the public to a mud run, Olds College is putting on a beer run. On Sept. 17, the campus will host its new fall event, Kegs & Legs 5K.

The Olds Grizzlys haven't arrived yet, but management likes where the team is going, signing head coach Dana Lattery to a contract for another two years.

Olds High School recently named its four Athletes of the Year. Sam Moffat received the award for Grade 9 boys. He played on the junior boys basketball team and on the boys soccer team this year.

Olds has been chosen as the host community for the 2017 Alberta Challenge, Hockey Alberta announced last week. The top-level bantam female tournament will be held from May 4-7 next year.

Our season so far has been great. Coming into our season there was some uncertainty, as we did not have a goalie. I knew my team could score going into the season -- it was the defending part I was uncertain about.

As of late this past week there was still an opportunity to tee off in the 16th annual Olds Rotary Club Golf Tournament. The 18-hole scramble takes place Friday, June 17 at the Olds Central Highlands Golf Club. It's a fundraiser for the Rotary Club.

After a two-year hiatus, the Olds Bulldogs are back. The Olds Amateur Football Association's Doug Rieberger says they expect enough 13 to 15-year old players to fill the bantam team this season.
