A member of the Meadow Creek Equestrian Vaulting Club near Olds is the Alberta Sport Development Centre – Central (ASDC-C) Athlete of the Month for June. Avery Malone, 15, has been competing in equestrian vaulting for seven years.

The Innisfail Dolphins are making quite the splash this season. The local swim club is currently sitting in fifth place in the province (among large teams) in the Alberta Summer Swimming Association's top club rankings.

The Olds U-14 Pistols softball team set the bar high this year. Head coach Jordan Cleland said they found a "coalition of the willing," 12 girls who wanted more games, more travel and tougher opponents.

Hundreds of players, parents, volunteers and officials took to the ball diamonds for the 8th annual Innisfail Softball Tournament. The three-day event for the girls of summer took place June 17 to 19 in Innisfail.

The Olds Spitfires bantam AA team finished regional play over the weekend at O.R. Hedges Park with a 1-1-1 record. They tied the Beaumont BoSox 14-14 on Friday, then beat them 9-8 on Saturday, before losing 18-5 to the Innisfail Indians on Sunday.

Some local gymnasts have already improved remarkably, thanks to the amount of time they've been able to practise in the Olds Gymnastics Club's new location, head coach Michelle Jaffray says.

Two teams from the Olds Minor Soccer Club medalled at the Big Country Soccer Association's U-12 District Finals over the weekend. The U-12 girls Team 2, coached by Ray Hoppins and Darla Korver won gold.

Grizzlys president Shane Dixon said he is happy with the state of the team's finances. During its annual general meeting on June 15 at the Olds Sportsplex, the board reported a $910 loss this past season.

Final preparations are underway to get ready for the many thousands of people who are expected to attend this weekend's 37th annual Sundre Pro Rodeo.
