INNISFAIL – It’s the time of year for track and field meets across the region.

DIDSBURY - A Grade 11 field hockey player from Didsbury High School recently returned from France where he travelled with the Canadian National Men's U-21 Junior Development Squad.

CARSTAIRS-CREMONA-DIDSBURY - Several athletes from the region qualified for the high school provincial track and field meet at the zone championships on May 22 in Calgary.

Almost $900,000 has now been raised to cover costs for amenities at the new Rotary Athletic Park expected to be available for use by the fall of 2019. Construction of the approximately $3.6-million project is expected to get underway this summer.

May continues to be a really busy month for Olds resident and Olympic wrestler Danielle Lappage.

INNISFAIL – Sometimes in sports a team just clicks. That was the case for badminton duo Madison Towle,16, and Laura Abraham, 17, who came together earlier this spring to compete as a doubles badminton team.

INNISFAIL – A local artist is stepping up to show support for the Humboldt Broncos. Maryanne Styner has painted more than a dozen goalie sticks for Innisfail Minor Hockey Association teams over the years.

The Sundre First League has fielded four teams this season, up one from last year, said the organization’s coordinator.

Local brothers Jordon, 19, and Nathen, 18, Waddell are competing against one another in lacrosse before becoming teammates in the fall in college.

Local athletes did well at the provincial baton twirling championships, according to Jenna Jemieff, who owns the Inspire Dance Studio and Baton Club in Olds.
