BOWDEN -- There's a new wrinkle at Bowden Daze, the 26th annual rodeo and all-around good time, which takes place July 27-29 at the rodeo grounds just south of town.

Former Olds resident Danielle Lappage won bronze during the 2018 Grand Prix of Spain freestyle wrestling competition. Lappage competed in the women’s 68-kilogram division, held July 15-16 in Madrid. In all, Canadian wrestlers won 10 medals.

DOGPOUND - The 112th annual Dog Pound Stampede was another big success. More than 200 competitors came out to compete in a number of events on July 17 and 18 at the Dog Pound Stampede Grounds.

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - A region-wide soccer club has formed recently and will be competing at the tier 3 level in Calgary.

INNISFAIL – The Innisfail Hawks Mosquito A Blue team are league champs. The team won their league in a championship series June 21 and 22 in Blackfalds.

PENHOLD – The town is preparing to welcome the world for its first Hlinka Gretzky Cup pre-tournament game early next month.

INNISFAIL – The Innisfail Fish and Game Association is stepping up in a novel way to help the environment, waterfowl and wildlife. The local club recently introduced a new fishing line recycling program.

DIDSBURY - Horses and riders from all around Alberta came out for the Didsbury Horse Show, which took place on July 13-15 at the ag grounds. The show, which was the 56th annual, was put on by Didsbury Agricultural Society.

Local lacrosse talent Liam Steele, 11, has been chosen to play for the Calgary Jr. Roughnecks during an Ontario-based tournament at the end of August. The sixth annual tournament being held in Oakville, Ont.

It's been an incredible season for the Olds Pistols girls' U-12 softball team.
