The Sundre Minor Hockey Association’s peewee squad was “pretty pumped” about hosting five teams for an action-packed weekend, said head coach Corey Burwell during a phone interview.

INNISFAIL – It’s a long-standing tradition involving farmers and local businesses. The 73rd annual Innisfail Farmers and Farmerettes Bonspiel is set to take place at the Innisfail Curling Club from Jan. 20 to 26.

The Olds High School Spartans senior boys' basketball team shows lots of potential, but has lots to learn too, according to head coach Kent Lorenz. There are four returning players from last year's senior team.

Cross-country skiers are not allowed on the Olds golf course, pro and manager Wade Bearchell says. Bearchell says that's in order to preserve the course in general, but especially the greens.

INNISFAIL – The Innisfail Eagles continue to dominate at home. While the Birds have struggled on the road this season, they went into Christmas break with three consecutive home wins against each team in the Allan Cup Hockey West (ACHW) league.

DIDSBURY - With 10 games left in the season, the Mountainview Colts are in third place in the Heritage League's North Division, several games back of second-place Red Deer.

The Olds Grizzlys team is made up of players from all around North America and one of the players furthest from home is forward Andrew Malek. Malek, 18, is originally from Milwaukee, Wis. and came here to play for the local team.

Olds resident Eric Palin began figure skating here in town when he was only eight years old. That turned into a 20-year career, which included performances with the hit show Disney On Ice. Nowadays he's working on cruise ships.
