CARSTAIRS-DIDSBURY - The 2018-19 high school basketball season started this week with games taking place across the region. On Nov.

The Olds College men's doubles team of Colton Geier and Rylan Head helped spur the college's overall badminton team's national ranking to 10th from 11th as a result of strong tournament play, according to coach Mary Smith.

BOWDEN - Brandon Rude is currently an Olds Grizzlys affiliate player but hopes to crack the regular lineup. Hockey has been a part of his life from a young age and the Bowden teen worked hard to earn a place among the Grizzlys.

Tonight (Tuesday, Nov. 27), the Olds Grizzlys have a big challenge ahead of them as they host the Camrose Kodiaks at the Sportsplex. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

INNISFAIL - Canoe polo is a sport that can be played all year round. The Alberta Canoe Polo Association (ACPA) recently held its annual general meeting and a recreational tournament at the Innisfail Aquatic Centre on Nov. 4.

INNISFAIL – Young hockey players often look up to their hockey idols and role models. Now Innisfail novice and atom hockey players have an opportunity to do just that with the Innisfail Eagles, their local senior AAA men’s hockey team.

Local athlete Leoni Kelly recently competed in an Ironman triathlon in Tempe, Arizona and finished in 12th place in her category. Kelly competed in the female 45 to 49 category on Nov. 18.

The Sundre Curling Club’s inaugural attempt to introduce an all-inclusive icebreaker sturling bonspiel met with great success, said the main organizer, who wants to make the event annual.

A former Sundre student now pursuing post-secondary education at Red Deer College recently competed in a national cross-country competition, bringing back with her a bronze medal.

The Sundre Skating Club has seen some growth compared to last year. “We’ve got a very large group this year of the pre-learn and learn-to-skate program,” said club president Lamar Tobin, adding there are about 40 children registered.
