RED DEER COUNTY — Olds RCMP say they have been unable to locate a suspect they were searching for Friday northwest of Bowden in Red Deer County.

According to an update provided around 3:40 p.m. Aug. 1, police say they’re still investigating and the suspect remains at large.

Police say they don’t believe the suspect poses “an immediate risk to the public,” but they’re asking area residents to report any suspicious activity to them.

The search began Friday morning when Olds RCMP received a report that a male was attempting to light a fire on a rural road.

“Upon arrival, officers located a stolen vehicle and attempted to track the suspect on foot,” police said in the update. “Police have conducted an extensive search of the area utilizing a police dog, helicopter, and drone resources.”

That search covered an area between Highway 587 and Township Road 350 from Range Road 12 and Range Road 14.
