RED DEER COUNTY – While Red Deer County and nearby urban centres remain under a heat warning Friday, Environment and Climate Change meteorologists say the hot weather should dissipate over the weekend.

“Daytime high temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius (C) with overnight low temperatures ranging between 14 to 18 (C) continue,” said the federal agency’s 4:27 a.m. August 1 weather alert for the area.

The heat warnings will end this weekend as daytime high temperatures return to the mid-20 C range, the alert said.

Heat warnings are issued when two or more consecutive days of daytime maximum temperatures are expected to reach 29 C or warmer and nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to fall to 14 C or warmer.

Red Deer County and nearby urban centres have been under a heat warning since Wednesday.

Locations included in Friday’s heat warning include:

• Red Deer County near Innisfail, Bowden Penhold, Pine Lake, Elnora, Lousana, Delburne, Spruce View, Red Lodge Provincial Park and Sylvan Lake;

• Kneehill County near Torrington, Wimborne, Three Hills, Trochu, Huxley, Acme, Linden and Carbon; and

• Rocky View County near Chestermere, Dalroy, Dalemead, Irricana, Beiseker and Kathyrn.

Mountain View County was not included in the heat warning.
