SUNDRE - Jason Nixon, the MLA for Rimbey- Rocky Mountain House Sundre, will be remaining in the Danielle Smith cabinet, but with a new title for his ministry, officials said Friday.
Premier Danielle Smith announced a cabinet shuffle on May 16, a move that includes the re-naming of Nixon’s ministry.
Formerly the minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services, Nixon’s new title is minister of Assisted Living and Social Services.
The change has been made to reflect Nixon’s oversight of Assisted Living Alberta (ALA).
According to the government website, Assisted Living Alberta is a new provincial continuing care agency that will “ensure that all Albertans can access the care they need, when and where they need it, regardless of age, diagnosis or duration of need.
“ALA will provide Albertans with a comprehensive, holistic system of care with a full range of wrap-around services, including: medical and non-medical supports, home care, community care, social services, and continuing care homes.
“ALA is focused on delivering care more effectively and consistently across the province by enhancing home and community services, expediting spaces in supportive living environments and continuing care homes, and making sure Albertans and their caregivers are well-informed.”
Assisted Living Alberta will become operational in the fall of 2025.
In making Friday’s cabinet shuffle, Premier Smith said in a release that, “Our government has already addressed many key priorities of Albertans, but we know there is more work to do, and I’m excited to continue working alongside each of my cabinet colleagues as we move forward an ambitious agenda for Albertans.”
Jason Nixon could not immediately be reached for comment on his new title.
