SUNDRE – The Sundre area was one of five places in Alberta to break high temperature records on Tuesday.
In a weather summary issued Wednesday, Environment and Climate Change Canada noted the Sundre area recorded a new, record-high temperature for July 8.
The temperature hit 31.8 degrees Celsius (C) Sunday at the Sundre Airport. The previous record for the day of 29.2 C was set in 2015.
Weather records for the area have been kept since 1993.
The following other Alberta areas set a daily maximum temperature record (listed in degrees Celsius) on Tuesday, July 8:
Bow Island area - New record of 32.6. Old record of 32.5 set in 2005. Records in this area have been kept since 1961.
Calgary area - New record of 31.8. Old record of 31.7 set in 1886. Records in this area have been kept since 1881.
Drumheller area - New record of 33.6. Old record of 32.6 set in 2024. Records in this area have been kept since 1923.
Esther area - New record of 32.5 Old record of 32.1 set in 2017. Records in this area have been kept since 1985.
The federal agency notes that these temperature records have been derived from a selection of historical stations in each geographic area that were active during the period of record.
