SUNDRE – A company receiving $5 million from the provincial government’s Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction program for a proposed closed loop geothermal project has reapplied for a new location.

Emissions Reduction Alberta has the project listed as a pilot valued at $15 million under the status of contribution agreement with the location in Sundre.

But when reached for comment, the president of FutEra Power Corp. said that was outdated information.

“There is no project in Sundre,” Lisa Mueller told the Albertan on Tuesday, Aug. 12 during a phone interview.

“We ended up cancelling that original project,” Mueller said, citing vendor issues.

“We just couldn’t get access to that location,” she said. “So we’ve just changed gears and we’re going to a friendlier environment.”

Asked when the decision was made to consider another location, she said that had occurred last November.

“We’ve just reapplied for a new location,” she said.

“We are currently looking at either Swan Hills or Grande Prairie.”
