Kids in an after-school care program received a big surprise last week when an Olds High School student brought them pizza and drinks plus board games to play.

Another group is donating to the Christmas Angels. Members of the Mocana Club-Olds -- a social organization for retirees of Mobil Oil Corp., Canadian Superior and Esso/Exxon – are bringing toys for the Christmas Angels to an event they're having Dec.

Town staff are hopeful that council's commitment to pay for roads and parking lots will result in something being built on the former high school sports field.

The Olds Fire Department is looking to replace one of its fire engines. The vehicle in question is about 17 years old, which would make its replacement earlier than the typical 20-year cycle, said fire Chief Lorne Thompson.

École Deer Meadow School students planning to be locked in the school all night have now set a date for the event. It will occur from 9 p.m. Dec. 8 to 9 a.m. Dec. 9.
