An Olds resident is hosting an art show at Sunrise Village Encore until Dec. 15. Elsie Bonkowski, 88, has been creating art for decades. She has lived at Sunrise Village Encore for nearly a year and now teaches art to her fellow residents.

An Alberta-born award-winning illusionist is coming to Olds. Derek Selinger, who was born in Vegreville and spent summers with his grandparents on a farm near Spruce View, will be performing his new show, The Gift, Dec. 8, 7:30 p.m.

The new Citizens On Patrol (COP) organization now has a board of directors, 29 confirmed members, and more on the way, according to COP president Vince Clarke. COP is a group of local volunteers who agree to patrol the community to help the RCMP.

At least two Alberta cabinet ministers are expected to tour Olds next year, possibly as early as January. They are Infrastructure Minister Sandra Jansen and Municipal Affairs Minister Shaye Anderson.

For over 19 years the volunteers of the Olds and District Christmas Angels Society have been providing food and new toys during the Christmas season to less fortunate families and individuals living in Olds and the surrounding area.

Plans are progressing to have a stone sculpture created by an international artist anchor Olds' newest outdoor attraction to be unveiled this spring. Town staff laid the groundwork for the Cornerstone Art Commons earlier this fall.

A two per cent property tax increase is under consideration to help balance the Town of Olds' proposed 2018 operating budget of more than $28 million. Council will review another draft of the budget at its Dec. 11 meeting.
