Olds' incoming mayor Michael Muzychka concedes electors didn't get a chance to vote (or not vote) for him when this past Tuesday, Judy Dahl, the mayor for 13 years, withdrew her nomination to run again.

A representative of the Mountain View Regional Waste Management Commission was on hand at a council meeting to request the speedy adoption of a contract change that would allow outside municipalities to use the regional landfill.

The new school board trustee for the QEII ward of Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools ñ which includes Olds and Innisfail -- has been acclaimed. Sharla Heistad was the only candidate to file nomination papers last Monday (Sept. 18).

The Rotary Club of Olds has secured the naming rights for the new athletic park currently being constructed along 70th Avenue, just north of the Cornerstone area. The Town of Olds made that announcement Monday, Sept. 25.

A 17-year-old Olds youth has been arrested and is facing three charges in connection with the attempted theft of a truck and trailer in Airdrie. Airdrie RCMP say at 1 a.m. on Sept.

The Hope Pointe Community Church (the Church of the Nazarene congregation) hopes to have hail damage repairs to its church completed by Nov. 30. Pastor Darlene Hyatt says the church's insurance company is currently choosing contractors for the work.

Classes are finally in full swing and now that the dust has settled, here's a summary of what's happening on the school scene this year.

BOWDEN ñ Council has set a date for a mayoralty candidates' forum Bowden. It will take place Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Friendship Centre. Rev. Jason Metcalfe will serve as the moderator. The election will be held Oct. 16.

Business Attraction Retention and Expansion (BARE) committee chair Terry Cody is urging those concerned about tax changes proposed by the federal government to write and voice their concerns now, because the window for comment closes Oct. 2.

As reported in an earlier column, the Olds Institute's Age-Friendly committee surveyed 200 people in our community. Outdoor spaces and buildings is the first issue for which we gathered information.
