Several students who participated in extracurricular activities were recognized and honoured during an Olds High School awards ceremony at the school June 12.

BOWDEN - Town councillors say they need much better communication with groups who organize things like the this year's Canada Day celebrations. This Sunday, Canada Day activities in Bowden will take place at the rodeo grounds from 5:30 to 11 p.m.

The first application for a retail cannabis store in Olds is making its way through the regulatory processes as proponents prepare for the end of recreational marijuana prohibition on Oct. 17.

BY Ty Rothermal and Doug Collie With the legalization of recreational cannabis coming in a few short months, town councillors have begun deciding how the laws behind cannabis retail sales will work in Olds.

Olds RCMP are investigating three rather different crimes that occurred in town last week. On June 16 at about noon, Henry's Shoes reported that a male had shoplifted a pair of running shoes and ran out the door.

During an Olds council meeting, library manager Lesley Sackett Winfield gave an overview of the happenings around the Olds Municipal Library and what its plans are moving forward.

The 2018 Free Our Finest event, held June 16 and 17 at Walmart in Olds, raised $5,383 for Special Olympics Alberta. That figure includes a $1,000 donation from Walmart, which hosted the event.

A local resident and his daughter are upset by the fact that vandals deliberately ran over several newly planted trees in Hartman Green Park, east and south of Ecole Olds Elementary School (EOES) playground. The damage occurred the weekend of June 9.
