OLDS — Tentative plans regarding the move of Town of Olds administration office staff to the operations centre have been unveiled by the municipality's chief administrative officer.
The move became necessary when the Town of Olds sold its administrative building last fall to Westview Co-op, which plans to use it as their headquarters.
The operations centre is located on the western outskirts of town, along 70th Avenue.
During a recent council meeting, Brent Williams said tentative plans call for the administrative office to be closed on July 7 and to reopen in its new location on July 21.
“Once that plan is totally confirmed, of course, and we get close to the date, we'll have public communication and advertising,” he said.
Williams said although the town office will be closed for a couple of weeks, staff will still be available to answer phone calls and emails.
“We will need two weeks to transition people, furnish, it, etc. from one office to another, but we'll still be answering phones and conducting business mostly as normal,” he said.
Coun. Heather Ryan asked how staff plan to handle people who prefer to pay their bills, etc. in person during that shut-down period.
Williams said drop boxes will be available both at the current town office location and the operations centre for those purposes.
Coun. Darren Wilson asked if an open house will be held for the public to see the new town office/operations centre.
“Certainly, I think we've talked about it internally already,” Williams said. “We're guessing that sometime in September.
“We would want to make sure all the lights turn on, the streaming works, and first get the bugs out. But yeah, September is our planned open to host it-ish.”
