OLDS — Four Olds and area students finished among the top three in the province in their age categories in the Knights of Columbus free throw competition.
Mykah Dolinski of Olds Koinonia Christian School placed first in nine-year-old girls and Molly Weigum of École Deer Meadow School (ÉDMS) finished first among13-year-old girls.
Sawyer Winfield, of ÉDMS, placed second among 14-year-old boys and Brayden Esguerra, also of ÉDMS, finished in third place among 11-year-old boys.
Richard Bodnar, coordinator of the competition in Olds, says this is the first time four kids have done this well in the roughly 20 years he has been organizing the event.
“I’ve had a couple before, never this many,” he said during an interview with the Albertan.
Bodnar noted in total there were 500 provincial finalists this year.
This year’s Knights of Columbus council level free throw event was held March 2 at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Olds. The regionals were held March 8 in Red Deer.
The provincial winners were only recently determined in Calgary.
