OLDS — The Alberta Bureau for International Education (ABIE) and senior representatives from nine post-secondary institutions in the Philippines visited the Olds College of Agriculture & Technology late last month.
College officials and delegates alike spent a full day of networking, knowledge exchange and campus engagement.
“The event, held in the W.J. Elliott Agribusiness Training Centre Atrium, highlighted Olds College’s leadership in applied research, hands-on education and global partnership development,” a news release said.
College leaders and faculty shared insights from across disciplines, including agriculture technology, life sciences, business, trades and industry training.
The event served as a platform for institutions from Alberta and the Philippines to identify opportunities for student mobility, joint research and academic exchange.
“We would like to thank Olds College for opening your institution’s doors to the world, showcasing real-world experiences in ag tech and specialized areas of research,” Raynie Wood, executive director of ABIE is quoted as saying in the news release.
“As leaders, we recognize the need to learn and grow with each other, and look forward to advancing conversations around mobility and partnerships.”
Peter Mal, Olds College’s vice-president student experience, is quoted as saying: “This was an incredible opportunity to welcome the world to our community and showcase the strength of the Alberta Post Secondary System.
"We're proud to share the work we're doing at Olds College and look forward to future collaboration.”
Merian P. Catajay-Mani, president of Romblon State University is quoted as saying: “This was a fantastic opportunity for Filipino institutions to explore collaboration with post-secondary institutions in Alberta. I see that potential partnerships could begin as early as this August.”
The day concluded with a tour of the college’s Smart Farm, providing delegates with a good look at how Olds College is using technology, data and industry collaboration to transform the future of agriculture.
