1937 - 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harvey Arthur Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend, on June 29, 2025, in Olds, Alberta. He was 88 years old. Harvey was born in Olds on January 8, 1937, to Arvid and Valentine Smith. From a young age, Harvey embodied a spirit of resilience and a dedication to hard work that would define his remarkable life.

Harvey's journey through life was a tapestry woven with diverse experiences and unwavering determination. He was, in the truest sense, a jack of all trades, leaving his mark on various industries. His early years included stints working for the railroad and on oil rigs, where he honed his skills and developed a strong work ethic. Later, he found fulfillment in assisting those with developmental disabilities, demonstrating his compassionate nature. He also worked as a carpenter, a janitor, and a bricklayer, skills that reflected his ability to build and create. Harvey's career also involved roles with the Olds Auction Market, and a passion for farming; He was ultimately self-employed in his own enterprise. His work ethic was matched by a gentle soul, and he always had a good story to tell, often recounting his memorable years growing up. Above all else, Harvey cherished his family.

He is predeceased by parents Arvid(Valentine) and infant sister Dixie Rose Marie.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Gloria Jean Smith. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter. He leaves behind his devoted children: Judy Adam (Robert Ruth), David (Sharon), Bonnie (Kevin Grant), Bruce (Dawn), Diana (Darren Mackenzie), and Tina (Vaughan Mills). He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren four great-grandchildren. Harvey was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Violet (Vilis Korns). He is survived by his siblings, Roy (Marg) and Jean (Allen Adair). Harvey's love and guidance will forever remain etched in the hearts of his family.

Harvey's interests reflected his down-to-earth nature. He was a skilled carpenter, crafting beautiful and functional items with his own hands. His love for gardening brought him immense joy, nurturing life from the soil. He loved fishing, hunting, and tanning his own deer hides. He had a thirst for knowledge and found solace in reading, often lost in the pages of a good book. He was an avid hockey fan, cheering passionately for the Calgary Flames, and always enjoyed a good western movie, especially those starring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. Harvey Arthur Smith's legacy is one of hard work, kindness, and a deep love for his family and friends. His laughter, his stories, and his unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. While his physical presence is gone, his memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those whose lives he touched.
