1940 – 2025
Mr. Alfred William “Bill” Champ was born on July 19, 1940, in Innisfail, Alberta, and passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was the beloved son of William Charles (Pa) and Jessie Mitchell (Ma) Champ, and cherished brother to Una. He grew up on the family homestead east of Innisfail, established by his grandfather, where his lifelong passion for farming and animals began. Alongside farm life, he worked at many jobs over the years, but farming always remained closest to his heart.
Through his sister and friends, Bill met the love of his life, Karen Olsen, whom he affectionately called “Slim.” They were married on April 3, 1961, and together built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. They welcomed their son Garth later that year, followed by daughters Leora (1963), Leanna (1965), and Kari (1972). Bill was blessed with ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He also held a special place in his heart for his niece, Tina Brown, along with her daughters and granddaughter.
Family and friends were at the center of Bill’s life. He loved a good gathering, especially when it included food, card games, and plenty of chocolate. His home and his heart were always open, and everyone was welcome, whether he knew them or not.
Bill is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of sixty-four years, Karen; son Garth Champ; daughters Leora (John) Clutton, Leanna (Kent) Meers, and Kari (Murray) Beaudoin; as well as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Una Spence, her children and their families. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-law Connie Enghoj, Corrine (Kirk) Graham, Bonnie Olson, and Linda Olsen, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #104, Innisfail, Alberta on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Innisfail Health Centre or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #104.
