1958-2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing
of Steve Nedoshytko on May 6, 2025 at the age of
66 years. Steve had a brave but brief battle with
pancreatic cancer.
Steve was born on July 14, 1958 in Edmonton to
Walter and Martha. He joined older brother Ihor,
and older sister Elizabeth to complete their family.
Steve had fond memories of going to the “farm” near
Lamont, where his maternal grandparents lived and
enjoyed helping on the family farm. He had many
stories of playing with cousins and siblings on the
farm, chasing pigs, herding cows, helping with
baling, and the many family dinners in his baba’s
kitchen.
Steve graduated from St. Joseph’s Composite High
School and worked for a short while for the city
of Edmonton. He then took Land Sciences at Olds
College and eventually got his certification as an
Assessor initially working for the Alberta Provincial
Government. After privatization, Steve lived for a
short while in Vancouver where he married and then
moved back to Calgary where his daughter Sarah
was born. Steve continued in Assessment Services
for Wheatland County, later moving to Strathmore
and then worked a shared services contract with
Kneehill County, living in Carbon, Alberta. When
the contract ended, he then took certification as a
Land Agent working again for Wheatland County.
He moved to Olds and accepted a position as
Manager of Assessment Services for MountainView
County in 2011 and retired from his career in 2020.
Steve met JoAnne in 2001 while living in Carbon. At
the time, JoAnne was living in Drumheller and soon
after their meeting moved to Didsbury to continue
with her career. The love endured despite the distance
and eventually married in 2006. At the time of their
marriage Steve was living in Carbon but because his
job took him back to Strathmore, he sold his house
in Carbon and bought a condo in Strathmore. Again,
despite the many miles, their long-distance marriage
endured. Finally in 2011, when Steve accepted the
position with Mountain View County, they were
able to join their households and their lives. Steve
was active in his church in various supporting roles.
He had a heart for helping people and enjoyed
volunteering for various ministries such as the Prison
Ministries program at Bowden Institute. He enjoyed
being Chair of the Care Deacons at Olds First Baptist
Church and was able to help individuals and families
in the community. Steve’s favorite pastime was fly
fishing including tying his own flies. He enjoyed
fly fishing on the Bow River, with his friend Terry
in interior BC, small lakes west of Sundre, and his
favorite spot – Peppers Lake. Steve enjoyed a salmon
fishing trip a couple of summers ago with the Schafer
family. Steve also enjoyed fishing with Sarah and Jon
last spring and was proud to pass on his passion to
her. Steve and JoAnne enjoyed several vacations to
Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, a Caribbean cruise, an
Alaskan Cruise, travel to Florida and more recently a
two-week tour of Atlantic Canada.
Steve is survived by his wife JoAnne Dulaney,
his daughter Sarah (Jon) Jones, father Walter
Nedoshytko, brother Ihor (Mary) Nedoshytko, sister
Elizabeth Mensforth, as well as JoAnne’s daughter
Katie Lutz, special grandsons Hudson and Bennett
Kingsley, nephew Michael Nedoshytko (Josie) and
niece Stephanie Nedoshytko (Stefan). Jakers, his
special puppy also misses him. He was predeceased
by his mother Martha, brother-in-law Michael
Mensforth, and JoAnne’s daughter Paula Kingsley.
He also leaves to mourn his aunts, cousins, and
many, many friends. Steve’s legacy is his deep faith
in God and his friendly, outgoing nature.
Steve’s family wish to thank all the nurses and
doctors on Unit 32 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital
as well as Dr. Onsongo and nurses of Acute Care at
Olds Hospital Services.
