1937 – 2025
Ernest Evans Marr passed away peacefully Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Innisfail, Alberta, his beloved wife, Nyna, by his side.
Born November 21, 1937 in Empress, Alberta to Elsie and Elec Marr of Prelate, Saskatchewan, Ernest was the third of five children. He married his high school sweetheart, Nyna Herman, June 30, 1962 in Lloydminster. They celebrated the birth of Thomas (1963), Timothy (1964) and Tamra (1971). A passionate and caring principal/teacher, Ernest earned his master's degree in education and worked at a number of schools across the north, including Fort McMurray, throughout his career.
Ernest retired in 1998. He and Nyna loved traveling, setting foot on seven continents and dipping toes in five oceans. Always there for his family, it was extremely difficult for Ernest when dementia began to impact his life. He was devotedly cared for by Nyna during his final years.
Ernest will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Nyna of Innisfail; his children, Thomas (Lisa) Marr-Laing of Red Deer, Alberta Timothy (Loree) Mastel-Marr of Edmonton, Alberta and Tamra (Kevin) Dorma of Calgary, Alberta; his grandchildren Christopher Marr-Laing (Kiana) of Victoria, British Columbia, Kate Marr-Laing of Montreal, Quebec, Cassandra Mastel-Marr of Edmonton, Alberta, Samantha Mastel-Marr of Kingston, Ontario, and Kerri and Kimberley Dorma of Calgary, Alberta. He will be deeply missed by sisters, Barbara Ann Smith of Edmonton, Alberta, Hazel Peregrym of Kamloops, British Columbia, and brother, Jim Marr of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan; as well as in-laws Al Cooper, George, Derrill and Ted Herman of Innisfail, Alberta, Peter (Marg) Herman of Bowden, Alberta, Alana (Neil) Anderson of Duck Lake, Saskatchewan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
