George Grant MacKay passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025. Grant was born in Kincardine, ON and grew up on an abundant farmstead in nearby Tiverton. The currents of life took him to places ripe with conflict, such as Cyprus and the Gaza Strip, while serving under UN Peacekeeping.
These formative experiences fostered interests that stayed with him for the rest of his life. Struck by the boundless qualities of a pilot, Grant acquired his license. He lived in the same spirit, working overseas and throughout Canada. His nomadic lifestyle would introduce him to his wife, Jean, and eventually a daughter named Carolyn.
Jean and Grant welcomed a niece and nephew into their home during their teenage years. Settling down didn’t diminish Grant’s interest in world affairs, nor his sheer force of will and tenacious work ethic. It is these defining qualities that stayed with him when his health declined. Strong and stoic until the end.
As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. He will be held lovingly in the hearts of those close to him.
