1928 – 2025
John William Lundy of Innisfail, Alberta passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Bethany Collegeside, Red Deer, Alberta at the age of 97 years.
For all that knew him, they knew him as ‘Bill’. Though he had no immediate family after his mother passed away, he was always considered a part of the Dyer family. Bill was Bob Dyer’s best friend from the age of seven years old. He was always with the Dyer family for Christmases, Easters, Thanksgivings, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Weddings and Funerals.
Bill will always be remembered for his quiet humor, kindness and empathy. He never failed to show up at the door with flowers and a kind word. Bill loved his planes, trains, boats and automobiles. He belonged to the Gull and Sylvan Lake sailing clubs for many years. Bill enjoyed flying models planes as well as using the flight simulator on his computer. He completed grade eleven and partially completed grade twelve before deciding to apprentice as a mechanic. Bill then did a few years working for an oil company as a surveyor’s assistant and handling explosives.
In 1954, he began a career at the Bowden Institution where he was originally a Correctional Officer but the majority of his time there was working in the finance department. He retired from the Bowden Institution in 1985.
He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Lawrence Lundy in 1954 and his mother, Irene Lorraine Lundy in 1961. The Dyer family would like to thank the staff at the Bethany Collegeside for Bill’s care the last four years. A special thank you to Jacqueline, Joanne, Portia and Jenn.
In keeping with Bill’s wishes a funeral service will not be held. Bill will be laid to rest next to his parents at the Innisfail Cemetery with his unofficial family in attendance. Innisfail was “Home” to Bill.
