August 28, 1934 – June 29, 2025
William (Bill) Howlett passed away peacefully at the Olds Hospital on June 29, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in Calgary, Alberta, on August 28, 1934, Bill was the only child of Charles and Elizabeth (Lulu) Howlett.
Bill pursued his education in Calgary before earning a Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and a master’s degree from Penn State University. His career in the oil industry spanned many decades and took him across Canada, the United States, and overseas to Algeria, Angola, and the United Kingdom.
In 1971, Bill married the love of his life, Joyce. After retiring from the oil business in 1988, the couple returned to Canada and first moved to Victoria, BC for two years, eventually settling in the town of Olds, where Bill began a second career in farming west of Olds. He embraced rural life wholeheartedly and enjoyed staying active in the community.
Bill had a lifelong passion for adventure and the outdoors. He loved boating, flying his airplane, riding his motorcycle, and golfing. Until 2022, he and Joyce spent their winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and summered at their condo in Osoyoos, B.C.
A man of quiet faith, Bill was a member of St. John's Anglican Church in Olds. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Joyce and his extended family of cousins in the Olds area, as well as by friends near and far who were touched by his warmth, humour, and enduring curiosity about the world.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Olds Hospital for the compassionate care and support provided during Bill’s final days.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the St. Johns’s Anglican Church, Olds. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Bill’s memory.
