1950 – 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Melvin Arthur Garland of Innisfail, Alberta.
Mel passed away at the Innisfail Health Centre on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the age of 75 years.
Mel was born in The Pas, Manitoba, to Cecil and Olive Garland. The family moved to Dauphin in the late 1950s. In his teens, Mel worked at A&W, where he met Diane. The two were married in 1969. In 1972, they moved to Elkford, British Columbia, where they lived for five years.
In 1977, they moved to Innisfail, making it their permanent home. Mel worked at Newman Ford and later at Fourlane Ford. He was a proud member of the Innisfail Legion, Branch #104, for fifty-one years, and a lifetime member of the Innisfail Fish and Game Association.
Melvin is lovingly remembered by his wife, Diane; his two sons, David of Innisfail and Mark of Peterborough, Ontario; his grandson, Zackery of Ottawa, Ontario; his brother, Bob (Joan) Garland of Innisfail; and his close friends, Norm Hammel of Penhold, Barry Heistead of Innisfail, and Doug Roberts of Innisfail.
Melvin will be deeply missed by all his family, friends, and everyone who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the CNIB at www.cnib.ca, Diabetes Canada at www.diabetes.ca, or the Canadian Cancer Society at www.cancer.ca.
A Memorial Tea will be held at the Innisfail Legion, Branch #104, on Thursday, June 26, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., for all who would like to join Melvin’s family to share memories, stories, and refreshments.
