Sundre, Clearwater crews assisting in wildfire response

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Firefighters from Sundre and Clearwater County were assisting Alberta Forestry crews in fighting a 40-hectare out-of-control wildfire in the Forest Protection Area west of Sundre on Saturday afternoon.

“Provincial air and ground resources have been deployed to support the response,” Mountain View County officials said in a release issued shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday.

“The wildfire (designated RWFO30) is moving in a northwest direction and may impact lands in other Mountain View County and Clearwater County. Authorities are directly contacting any properties that require evacuation.”

At the time of the release, no formal evacuation orders had been issued by Mountain View County.

“We remain in ongoing communication with Alberta Forestry and other emergency partners to determine if further actions are needed to support affected residents.”

People in the affected area are being encourage to “remain alert and monitor updates as they become available.”

There have been no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire has not been released.

Mountain View County imposed a fire restriction for the entire municipality on Friday and that directive remains in place.
