MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Arya Ahmadi says if he is elected in Mountain View County Division 2 in the upcoming municipal election he will work to support and promote smaller centres in the municipality, including Water Valley and Cremona.

Ahmadi is one of two candidates to have already filed nomination papers in the division, the other being incumbent councillor Greg Harris.

A longtime Water Valley resident, Ahmadi is seeking election to public office for the first time.

“I would like to get more support for Water Valley and Cremona and all the things we do,” he told the Albertan. “Economically and culturally we have to bring some new life in here.

“We need a stronger emergency services and we need to retain our youth and our volunteers.”

If elected as the division’s councillor he said he promote council transparency in decision making.

“I think there are many areas where the county can help us,” he said. “There are many small hamlets and smaller communities that without support will fade away and I don’t want that to happen to Water Valley and Cremona.”

Nominations for the Oct. 20 municipal election close on September 22.
