OLDS — Incumbent Town of Olds councillor Wanda Blatz definitely plans to run for a third term on council; she’s just not sure yet if she’ll be running for a councillor or mayor position.
During an interview with the Albertan, Blatz confirmed her intention to run again in the Oct. 20 election but said she and her husband Lyle have to discuss the pros and cons before she decides whether to run for a councillor’s seat or seek the mayor’s chair.
“I'm close, but I haven't really. And I'll tell you, to be honest, I've been waiting to see what the support is for me,” she said, noting that if she runs for mayor, she’d currently be the third candidate for that seat, which would split the vote.
Former mayor Mike Muzychka and current town councillor Dan Daley have already announced their intention to seek that mayor’s chair.
Blatz said a big question is whether her chances of getting back on council would be better if she just runs for councillor.
“I do want to have one more term,” she said.
“I do like it,” she said during an earlier interview. “I mean, it certainly has its moments, but I just thought that we started some momentum with some projects that we’ve got on the go and I would like to sort of see them come to fruition.
“I just thought one more term, that would be three terms; that's plenty. And I mean, if I'm not successful I don't regret ever having the time I've had, for sure.”
Blatz said she’ll decide which position to run for in the next couple of weeks.
