MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Edward Shaw says if elected in Mountain View County’s Division 1 in the upcoming 2025 municipal election he will work to help diversify the municipality in support of the agriculture industry.
Shaw has filed nomination papers in the division, as has incumbent Dwayne Fulton. Shaw lost a close race with Fulton in the last municipal election in the division -- 289 votes to Fulton's 290. A recount was held which upheld Fulton's win.
“I’d like to see our county start to look to get more diversified in some of their activities that complement the agriculture and not shy away from development,” Shaw told the Albertan.
“Our tax base is dwindling because of the oil and gas revenues, so we have to be able to develop operations that are compatible with our agriculture.”
He cited a new large-scale flour mill in Red Deer County as an example.
Shaw said he would also work to ensure the county council transparency.
“I’d like to see council more interactive with the voters and stakeholders,” he said. “I’d like to see more open and transparent council transactions.”
Shaw is a longtime resident of the division, which is located on the county’s far south-east corner.
