MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Environment and Climate Change Canada continued a snowfall warning Monday for Mountain View County and nearby urban centres along with other Alberta locales.
According to the federal agency's 4:36 a.m. April 21 weather alert update, heavy flurries, with total snowfall amounts of 10 centimetres (cm) to to 20 cm, are expected and possible.
"Showers and flurries are expected in Alberta today and tonight. Precipitation will fall mainly as snow over higher terrain west of Highway 2," the federal agency's snowfall warning said.
"This snowfall event will end by Tuesday morning."
Areas included in the warning are Mountain View County near Olds, Didsbury, Carstairs, Water Valley, Cremona and Sundre in the April 20 warning.
The federal agency first issued a snowfall warning for the area Easter Sunday.
Parts of Rocky View, Clearwater, Brazeau and Yellowhead counties along with portions of the Municipal District of Bighorn and Municipal District of Greenview were also included in the April 21 warning.
”Due to the convective nature of this weather system, conditions will be highly variable throughout the region,” the warning said.
A snowfall warning is issued in Alberta when 10 cm or more of snow falls within 12 hours or less.
Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow, the federal agency warned.
“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow."
