MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Mountain View County’s property tax administration bylaw incentive program, which allows ratepayers to receive a reduction in taxes if they pay up before June 30, saw an increase in participation in 2025, council heard.
A report on the program was received by council at a recent, regularly-scheduled council meeting.
The bylaw allows for a reduction of 1.5 per cent if taxes are pay by the last day of June.
Of $51,684,844 in taxes received in 2025, $19,680,146 or 62 per cent was received by June 30.
Last year the totals were $49,002,471 and $21,765,917 or 56 per cent.
The total number of rolls in 2025 was 12,179, with 5,796 or 52 per cent outstanding at June 30. Last year, the total was 11,829.
Jeff Holmes, the county's chief administrative officer, said, “Preliminary figures indicate that property tax collection by the tax incentive deadline was slightly higher that last year (and that) all major oil and gas companies that remitted taxes by this time last year have also done so for 2025.”
Reeve Angela Aalbers called the program a success again in 2025.
“This is a good news story for us, I think,” she said.
Holmes added, “It’s good from the perspective that it certainly enables cash flow so we don’t have any cash flow issues over the summer construction months when we spend most of our money.
“This early incentive is one of the tools that helps us manage cash flows.”
Council accepted the 2025 payment incentive report as information.
In other news from the recent council meeting, council approved sponsorship requests for several community events.
The county will provide $500 for the Sundre Elks Charity Golf Classic on Aug. 17, $700 for the Reed Ranch County Fair on Sept. 6, and $3,000 for the 2025 Oldstoberfest held on Sept. 11-13.
