182 violation tickets issued in Mountain View County

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Mountain View County peace officers conducted two dozen commercial vehicle stops and issued 182 tickets in the municipality in the latest quarter.

The county's chief administrative officer, Jeff Holmes, presented a report to council on Aug. 13, outlining recent operations and relevant actions related to the county’s strategic priorities during April, May and June.

Of the 24 commercial vehicle stops conducted during the quarter, 21 tickets were issued for speeding violations, two for documentation violations, eight for equipment violations and one for a moving violation.

Officers issued a total of 182 violation tickets during the quarter, with top stops including 68 kilometres an hour (km/h) over in Westcott, 65 over in Jackson, 63 over in Lonepine, 60 and 59 in Dogpound.

Officers patrolled a total of 44,597 kilometres during the quarter.

The report includes fire department calls in the county: 60 by Sundre department, 42 Cremona, 37 Didsbury, 28 Olds, and 26 Carstairs.

The report also included an update on public participation in campaigns, including 29 at the Green Acreage Workshop, 16 at the Riparian Restoration Workshop, 400 students at the Watershed Expo in Sundre, 200 students at Aspen Ranch Farm Safety & Environment Camps, 500 students at Aggie Days in Carstairs, 55 at the ALUS 10-year celebration, and 37 at BearSmart Awareness at James River Hall.

The report also included an update on grant allocations, including the following:

• 10 organizations have received a total of $10,495 under the REEP/ALUS program;

• 15 organizations have received a total of $21,000 in cemetery funding;

• 22 organizations have received a total of $252,027 through the Cremona Recreation Board;

• 18 organizations have received a total of $111,407 under the Family and Community Social Service program;

• 23 organizations have received a total of $92,215 under the rural community hall program; and 

• eight organizations have received a total of $19,841 under the transportation grant program.
