A special weather statement continues Monday for much of Alberta including Red Deer and Mountain View counties and neighbouring municipalities.
A long duration heat event is expected over the next seven days, the federal agency warned Sunday and again Monday.
“Daytime high temperatures between 29 to 33 degrees Celsius are expected for communities in central and northern Alberta, and will expand to include portions of southern Alberta beginning Monday,” the federal agency’s 4:49 a.m. weather alert for the area said. “Overnight low temperatures ranging between nine to 13 degrees will offer some relief from the heat.”
Included in the special weather statement are:
• Mountain View County near Sundre, Carstairs, Cremona, Water Valley, Didsbury and Olds.
• Red Deer County near Innisfail, Penhold, Bowden, Elnora, Lousana, Delburne, Pine Lake Spruce View, Red Lodge Provincial Park and Sylvan Lake.
The federal agency suggested people consider rescheduling outdoor activities to the morning or evening, when temperatures will be cooler.
“Extreme heat can affect everyone's health. Watch for signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others. Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue.”
Heat warnings may be expanded in the coming days as the event unfolds.
