A flood watch has been issued for the Little Red Deer River in both Mountain View and Red Deer counties.
Alberta Environment issued an updated alert at about 9:30 a.m. this morning (May 23).
“Rising water levels are expected to impact low lying areas adjacent to the river, such as Red Lodge Provincial Park and Westward Ho Campground,” states the alert.
Since Wednesday, May 20, a low pressure system brought widespread precipitation to Alberta.
Alberta Environment reports that general amounts of 40-65 millimetres (mm) of total precipitation were observed from the southern border up to Wainwright, Slave Lake and Grande Prairie.
Localized higher amounts ranging from 75-100 mm were recorded in areas around Drayton Valley, Whitecourt, Sundre, Calgary, and Lethbridge, according to the Alberta Environment report.
Due to this precipitation, a number of advisories are in effect across the province.
“Anyone situated close to the streams affected are advised to be cautious of the rising levels,” the alert states.
