Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a heat warning Tuesday for municipalities east of Highway 2 bordering Mountain View County.
“High temperatures in the low- to mid-30s with overnight lows between 14 and 20 degrees Celsius are expected beginning (Tuesday) and continuing on Wednesday,” the federal agency’s 4:45 a.m. July 8 weather alert for Kneehill County said.
The early morning warning was issued for 13 Alberta municipalities including:
• Kneehill County near Torrington, Wimborne, Three Hills, Trochu, Huxley, Acme, Linden and Carbon; and
• Rocky View County near Irricana, Beiseker, Kathyrn, Chestermere, Dalroy, and Dalemead.
Heat warnings stretch south to places like Carmangay and then east to the Saskatchewan border including Medicine Hat.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issues heat warnings when "very high temperature conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion."
Cooler temperatures are forecast on Thursday.
“Take action to protect yourself and others – extreme heat can affect everyone’s health. Determine if you or others around you are at greater risk of heat illness,” the federal agency’s Tuesday weather alert continued.
“Check on older adults, those living alone and other at-risk people in-person or on the phone multiple times a day. Watch for the early signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others. Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. Stop your activity and drink water.”
