MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Mountain View County's council has reviewed and accepted the 2025 Cremona & District Recreation Board funding totalling $311,127.
The 2025 funding includes a special request of $60,000 to help fund the arena chiller project.
The funding allocation review came during the recent, regularly-scheduled council meeting, held in person and online, with all council members in attendance.
The Cremona & District Recreation Board Committee approved the funding at an earlier meeting in April.
Recreation board funding throughout the county is a per capita amount based on the rural population of each district. In the Cremona district, the per capita rate is $93.76.
The board distributes funding on behalf of the county due to the high percentage of rural residents in the area outside the village.
Funding approved for 2025 includes $13,000 for the community hall for insurance/utilities/maintenance, $10,000 for the engagement society for rural community programming, $13,000 for the curling club, $5,000 for minor baseball, $7,500 for minor hockey, $12,000 for the municipal library, $12,650 for the 13th annual show and shine, and $9,280 for a Canada Day celebration.
Some of the funding also goes to Water Valley, including $20,000 for the community association, $20,000 for an announcers booth replacement by the Water Valley Stampede Association, and $9,150 for the Water Valley library.
The county's chief administrative officer, Jeff Holmes, said the board is “responsible for ensuing that quality of life opportunities are available to residents of the county, within the Cremona recreation district, through the development, management, and support of recreational and cultural services.”
Last year's CDRB funding was about $303,000, said Coun. Greg Harris, whose Division 2 includes Cremona and Water Valley areas.
The council carried a motion accepting the CDRB funding allocation as information with not further action to be taken.
