At the Alberta provincial trials held on the weekend of June 14 to 16, the Olds Rapids swim team claimed bronze in the 12-and-under girls 400-metre individual medley and the 14- to 15-year-old 400-metre individual medley.

Keith Newton of Olds got off to a good start at the Alberta Mid-Amateur Championship, coming in with a two-day 149 total, until the third windy and rainy day of the golf tournament where he shot a 78.

Sundre High School's track and field team brought home the provincial banner for the fifth consecutive year. Nineteen local athletes participated in the provincial championship in Calgary over the weekend.

The Annual Dallas Yarbrough Memorial Tournament was rained out on Friday June 7, but that didn't stop the rest of the weekend from going off like the crack of a bat.

The Peewee Phantoms started off the Spirit of the Sticks tournament with a bang and 11-year-old Hunter Sweet was feeling the rush. "It was amazing," he said, noting the team had only picked up a few victories all season. "It felt awesome.

The Olds High School Spartans soccer team finished the season on a high note, beating the Innisfail Junior-Senior High School Cyclones 2-0 in B-side playoffs on June 8 at Michener East Field in Lacombe.

Olds High School was able to capture two bronze medals at the senior track provincial competition in Calgary on June 7.

The Olds Stingers won a pair of games over the weekend, dumping the Lethbridge 'Cudas 12-8 and the Crowsnest Pass Ravens 14-11 in Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League tier three junior B action on June 8 and 9 respectively.

Contestants will compete for $240,000 worth of prizes at the 53rd annual Innisfail Professional Rodeo.
