OLDS — Local throwing athlete Natalie Harrison recently got a taste of just how tough it can be to compete at the national level.

Harrison finished 19th in discus, 20th in shot put, and 21st in shot put during the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships, held Aug. 8-10 in Calgary.

“The competition was stiff and she is the bottom of the age group,” coach Rachel Andres told the Albertan in an email. “Overall, it was a good experience for her, getting to be a part of the Team Alberta national team.”

Local throwing athletes have four more competitions to finish out the season, on Aug. 23, Aug. 30, Sept. 13, and Sept. 28.
