DIDSBURY – Council has approved funding for a dozen Didsbury groups and organizations under the community grant program. The approvals came during the June 10 regularly scheduled council meeting.

During the 2025 budget process, council allocated $30,000 from the 2024 year-end surplus to the 2025 community grant program.

Established in 2021, the program sees funds allocated to eligible Didsbury groups to assist with event, programs and facilities waivers that service the Didsbury community, acting chief administrative officer Amanda Riley said in a briefing note to council.

The related policy allows for allocations of up to $25,500 to organizations, with the remaining $4,500 available for facility waiver requests, she said.

In May, council referred grant application requests from various community groups and organizations to the financial planning committee for review and recommendations for 2025 funding.

Allocations by the committee and approved by council at the June 10 council meeting include Didsbury Rec Hockey referee training $2,000, Mountainview Colts Sports and Recreation Association for assistance with bussing costs for team travel $2,000, Five O Club of Didsbury for enhanced lighting to floor curling space $2,000, and Didsbury and District Chamber of Commerce for annual country Christmas activities $2,000.

Others receiving funding include Didsbury Minor Hockey Association for costs associated with the DMHA hosting four home tournaments, and Didsbury Aquajets Swim Club for annual swim meet costs $2,000.

The complete list of 2025 community grant allocations can be found on the town’s website.
