DIDSBURY – Council has approved an amendment the Social Services Rates and Fees bylaw to allow the charging of a $65 per day drop-in fee for the 2025 Summer Fun Program. The move came by way of motion at the June 10 council meeting, held in person and online.
In April council approved updates to Bylaw No. 2025-11 that removed daily drop-in rates for the program.
During the June 10 council meeting, administration presented a briefing note to council vis-a-vis the daily drop-in rate.
“Registrations for the 2025 summer fun program opened on May 6 and we have received numerous requests for a daily drop-in rate for days that are not field trip days,” acting chief administrative officer Amanda Riley said in the note.
“In previous years, the daily drop-in rates have been well utilized by families looking or one-day childcare during the summer.”
Last year, the town sold 117 daily rates spots over the course of the program, with a value of $6,435, based on the 2024 rate of $55 per day for drop-ins outside field trip days, she said.
“The daily drop-in rate has proved to be an excellent source of additional revenue for the Summer Fun program, while offering a safe childcare option for families in our community.”
Administration recommended that council consider an amendment to the Social Services Rates and Fees bylaw to allow for a daily drop-in rate.
Council voted unanimously to approve the new $65 per day rate.
