DIDSBURY - With several days to go until this year’s Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge in support of Wellspring Alberta, the Didsbury Fire Department team has surpassed its fundraising goal.

Nick Best, Naomi Moore, Raphael Buergi, Kyle Leeson, Mark Hughes, Steve Riley and Noel Darcy have raised $8,488 as of June 4. Their goal was $5,000.

The 10th annual Firefighter Stairclimb will be at Calgary’s tallest tower, Brookfield Place on June 9. Participants climb 57 stories and 1,370 stairs in modified firefighter gear.

Funds raised are donated to Wellspring Alberta, a registered charity offering a range of free programs for cancer patients and their families. Wellspring is the only organization that devotes itself exclusively to the unique non-medical needs cancer patients face.

“Year after year, we're impressed by the dedicated participants who train relentlessly and show up to support Wellspring Alberta. Their commitment and passion are what make this such an amazing event,” said Natalie Noble, Wellspring Alberta CEO in a prepared statement issued Tuesday.

This year marks the event’s 10th anniversary.
