Vote tallies change but official Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills byelection result remains

OLDS - The June 23 byelection in the Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills riding saw 38.8 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots, according to Elections Alberta.

The official results of the vote were released by Elections Alberta on Thursday. 

United Conservative Party of Alberta candidate Tara Sawyer won the election, defeating three challengers.

Sawyer garnered 9,362 votes, NDP candidate Bev Toews 3,063, Republican Party of Alberta candidate Cam Davies 2,708, and Wildrose Loyalty Coalition candidate Bill Tufts 189.

The unofficial results released on election night were Sawyer 9,363, Toews 3,061, Davies 2,705, and Tufts 189.

Of the 15,363 votes cast, 65.1 per cent were on election day and 32.7 per cent were advance voting. There were 40 spoiled ballots, six were declined and 35 were rejected, according to Elections Alberta.

The byelection was held to replace UPC MLA Nathan Cooper, who resigned to become Alberta’s representative in Washington, D.C.

Two other byelections held on June 23 saw the NDP win seats in Edmonton-Ellerslie and Edmonton-Strathcona.
