CARSTAIRS – The Carstairs Bancroft United Church is celebrating a key historic milestone this month, officials said in a release.

Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregations joined together in 1925 to form the United Church of Canada.

The church in Carstairs started in 1901 as a Methodist congregation and became part of the United Church in 1925.

The first Carstairs church building, constructed in 1906, was later demolished and then replaced in 1968 with an addition that was added in 1978.

“Buildings of that era are not energy efficient and so, in 2025 with the help from a Faithful Footprints Grant from the United Church of Canada, Carstairs is installing solar panels and doing other energy upgrades,” said officials.

The history of the Carstairs Bancroft United Church is featured this month in an interpretive display at the Carstairs Museum.

"We have a colourful and interesting history," said Robert Peel, treasurer of the Carstairs Bancroft United Church. He is also the treasurer of the Carstairs & District Historicial Society.
